What does a prosthodontist do?

A prosthodontist is a dentist specialized in the restoration and replacement of missing or damaged teeth, as well as in optimizing chewing function and dental aesthetics. To achieve optimal results, they work closely with various general dentists and specialists.

What does a periodontist do?

A periodontist is a dentist specialized in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of gum diseases and the supporting structures of the teeth, including the alveolar bone. They perform thorough examinations to look for signs of gum inflammation and bone loss around the teeth. Procedures may include scaling, root planing, soft tissue and bone grafts. They also replace the root anchorage of missing teeth by placing implants in the jawbone.
After completing a five-year university education and obtaining their diploma as a general dentist, the prosthodontist and periodontist continued their specialization with three additional years of study.
